About

penguinppc.org is the home for Linux on the PowerPC family of processors. The penguinppc site is maintained by a small group of community volunteers representing a wide range of projects and distributions. Want to help out? All contributions welcome.

Linux currently runs natively on all PowerPC-based Macintosh computers, some IBM PReP and CHRP workstations, and a legion of embedded systems. More information is available in the Introduction page and FAQ.

penguinppc.org is the home of the PowerPC GNU/Linux project, the native port of GNU/Linux to the PowerPC processor. The site is is run and maintained by volunteers from the community. PowerPC GNU/Linux runs natively on PCI-based Apple Power Macintosh, many IBM and Motorola PReP and CHRP workstations, IBM pSeries and iSeries servers, Amiga Power-UP systems, and many embedded platforms that utilize the Motorola/Freescale and IBM/AMCC embedded PowerPC processors. The kernel supports multiple processors (SMP), which works on some Power Macintosh models and IBM servers.
